TL;DR: I ran PyMuPDF 1.28 and qalam 0.1.3 on 51 real Arabic PDFs (6,626 pages: government reports, financial statements, newspapers, theses, old laws, poetry, schoolbooks, scans) and scored 26 passages against text I transcribed by hand. qalam was closer on 21 of 26.
