What budget boards do you use for multi-GPU?

Looks like x99 motherboards are quite cheap and give up to 4 PCIe 3.0 X16. From what I understand, it's comparable to PCIe 4.0 x8. I'm thinking about buying 3 mi50 16Gb which I managed to find locally for about 150$. But I'm curious if any of you also have budget setups.
